Posted By Families Firstcare On October 17, 2022 @ 6:40 am In Obituaries | 1 Comment

Napolean Israel, affectionately known as Nap, was born in Laurens County, Georgia on November 21, 1934 and was the youngest of seven children born to the late Deacon Lamar Braxton and Mattie Smith Israel. He was preceded in death by his bothers, Ceshion and Eddie, and sisters Irene, Willie Mae, Ruby Lee and Lela Pearl.

At an early age, he joined St. Luke Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J.S. Massey. He was educated in the public school system of Chatham County and was a star football player at Beach High School under Coach Joe Green. After high school he join the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He retired after over 35 years at Georgia Pacific where he held many positions of varying degrees of responsibility. He was most proud of his post as a Union Representative.

He spent the last 32 years with Marlene Burns-Israel by his side. He will be remembered as a loving husband and family man who was a dedicated member of the family reunion committee. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good ole days and spending time with the many cousins, nieces and nephews whose lives he touched in a personal way. His friends would tell you he was a quick witted but quiet soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand or help anyone in need.

He leaves to cherish his memory: three children from his previous marriage, Christopher (Evon) Israel, Alice Israel, and Kathie Israel Boggs; Marlene’s children whose live he touched with love, Malachi J. Welch, Paris Burns and Robert D. Burns, Jr.; and a host of grand-children, great grand-children and great great grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and family members near and far.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Alpha & Omega Worship Center, 4906 Pineland Drive, Garden City, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service form 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery on Skidaway Road in Savannah.
