Walter James (Jimmy) Taylor of Dublin, GA passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024 in
Savannah, GA. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 17, 1944. He was a Sergeant in the
United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. An active member of the Marine Corps
League of Dublin, he remained a dedicated Marine until his passing. Jimmy was an avid
fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed time on the shooting range near his home. During
his career, he was a heavy truck mechanic for Tommy Smith in Macon, GA and a body shop
foreman for Akin Ford in Winder, GA and Nash Chevrolet in Lawrenceville, GA. After his
retirement in 2010, he worked for a period of time at Dixie Ammo Dump in Hoschton, GA with
fellow service members. In his later years he proudly wore a hat proclaiming to be a grumpy old
vet. Those who knew him understood that he was one who would tell you like it was; he held no
punches. Papa was loyal to his family and friends. If he loved you, you knew it. You could find
him riding around on his Ranger, and more times than not he had his loyal German Shepherd
Greda riding with him, making sure the surroundings and the family were as they should be. He
was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Joyce Tidwell Taylor, father James Donalson
Taylor, stepmother, Elsie Washburn Taylor, son, James Anthony Taylor, and grandparents
Walter and Lillian Tidwell. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Beverly Cobb Taylor, and his
sister Paula Taylor McGowan, both of Dublin, GA, daughters Tami Taylor Gagulich (Ty) Perth,
Western Australia, Lisa Taylor Crinklaw (Eric), Anacortes, Washington, stepdaughter Anessia
Underwood Braswell (Tommy), Bloomingdale, GA, and several grandchildren, great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church
located at 3051 GA-257 in Dublin, GA on Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive
guests one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the
National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) at https://ndss.org in honor of Isabell Braswell.

Condolence from Kevin Washburn on March 9th, 2024 6:03 pm

My cousin Jimmy was a good man. I always respected him for his honesty. Though we didn’t talk frequently, with the advent of Facebook we began to keep in touch with more regularity and did talk from time to time. Whenever we did it was always as if we picked up right where we left off. I know that he was well loved by his immediate and extended family and will be missed by us all!
