Minister Delores S. Mungin

Posted By Kyle Nikola On February 7, 2022 @ 4:05 pm In Obituaries | 8 Comments

Minister Delores S. Mungin was born May 19, 1941, to Benjamin Diggs Sr. and Ruby Smith Diggs in Brooklyn, New York. Her mother, Ruby moved back to her family in Early Branch, South Carolina and later her family moved to Savannah, Georgia where Delores grew up. She was raised by David and Ruby Spann, lovingly called, mom and dad. As a child, she  was anointed, and received the Lord, Jesus Christ as to guide her life. She attended church regularly and was very active in the church and served as Youth Minister for many years. As a Youth Minister, she taught Sunday School and was known for being very creative and working well with kids.

Delores was the oldest of 10, then three brothers were born next. She loved her brothers but prayed diligently and asked God for some sisters. He blessed her with four sisters whom she taught to read, write, and sing. She really loved spending time with the girls, so much so, that three became her own singing trio and the sisters thought she was the “best sister ever”. God blessed her again with two more brothers. She received her LPN degree at Savannah Technical College. This was the first graduating class of Black nurses in Savannah. She began her career as pediatric nurse at Memorial Medical Center where she retired after 30 years. After retirement, she continued nursing by providing services to private families.

She loved God, family, and friends. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching movies, and helping others. Many times, she hosted family events. She would cook for anyone at any time. All you had to be “was hungry”. She didn’t need much to make a meal, and needless to say, “it was good!”.

On February 3rd, 2022, at home, Delores went peacefully in her sleep to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her biological father Benjamin Diggs Sr., her parents David and Ruby Spann, Benjamin Diggs Jr. and Betty Diggs (brother and sister-in-law), Edward and Eldora Diggs (brother and sister-in-law), David I. Spann (brother), Veronica M. Spann (sister), Stephen L. Spann, Sr. (brother) and Dennis David Polite (godson).

She leaves to cherish her memory, four children Patricia (Robert) Brown, Jacqueline I. Bright, Gary (Sandra) Bright, and Gayle (Ben Beatty) Jones. Eight grandchildren: Javier (Bobby) Bakalo (Maureen), Kiana N. Brown, Kymberly N. Brown, Ashley (Travis) Wilson, Chantel Duffy, Gabrial Bright, Daija Jones, and Robert L. Brown. Seven great-grandchildren: Alia Waddell, Alana K. Moss, Justin Wilson, Xavier Bakalo, Xiolia Bakalo, Ashlynn Wilson, and Aria Wilson.

Also, four siblings: Sarah (Will) Yancey, Carol (John) O’Neal, Joan (Ronald) Gilliard, Michael (Kathy) Spann, Brenda Spann (sister-in-law), Sylvia P. Singleton (sister), her goddaughter, Keisha (Ealy) Sanders, and her best friend and cousin Ruby (Sam) Dodge Johnson, as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  family, and friends.

Graveside Services will be Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Rock Spring Cemetery, 6454 Possum Corner Road, Early Branch, South Carolina 29916.

Gayle, Daija, Ben and the Spann family, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I will be praying for you as you mourn the loss one whom you loved dearly. I know you will miss her; but be consoled to know that she is completely healed, her soul is rested, and now she is resting in the arms of the Lord. Continue to look to the hills from whence cometh your help during times such as this. He will give you the strength and inner peace that you need. He will never leave you or forsake you. Just put your faith and trust in the Almighty God.

My love, thoughts, prayers and condolences are with you all!
Aunt Delores was a matriarch and will be dearly missed! I remember her always having such an uplifting spirit & a Go-Getter mentality!
I loved to watching her up in the pulpit, giving her testimonies—such fervor! She always knew how to get the people going, especially me!

Aunt D fought the good fight and now there is only peace…
I love y’all so much!!! & Im praying for your peace in this time.

To my family.I am and will always pray for your well being near or far. Remembering and forgetting is a choice. Existing and living is a choice as well. My Grandmother chose to live in this world. She chose to Sing the gospel. She chose to live the gospel and instill this truth in her children for every generation there after. Her mother did the same.Works. Faith without works is dead. By doing so she displayed the Power of God. To so many of us,this alone is hard to obtain. In this world we live in we are told what to do,but not how to do it. She showed us how in everything she did. Faith. Faith is not what you can see immediately. You can only feel.Confirmation can be seen on your journey. She was able to see finally, after Consistency. The fruit of her labor showed and shows favor. Her mind, her heart never belonged to us, yet to the ones she knew and even strangers she gave of it. We wish we could be where you are everyday. The very same prayers you trained us up in is how we get to be born again. Today I still pray, we all pray. We pray with heavy hearts by flesh and tears of joy in our eyes in our Spirit as we give you your flowers. Today we rejoice in the name of the lord. He has called his child home. I know it feels so good to hear the words well done my faithful servant. I know the time I had with you was short and how my father says your light has gone out. I just want to take the time out to give you your flowers now that you truly live and let you know I will never forget you. You will always shine in my heart through God.Through his and your children. Let them continue to be blessed in Jesus name, used as vessels in his name as well. Amen.I love you. P.s I know you got pull up there, see if you can get me in the party vip like you lol I’m just playing. I know I still got works. Thank you for training me for them. Your instructions have came in handy. Well… I gotta go now… I’ll let you Rest In Peace. We’ll talk again soon. See you later…. God’s Child

Condolence from Grace E. Calhoun on April 6th, 2022 2:16 pm

From Grace Calhoun of Hyannis, Massachusetts. Sorry to hear about Delores.
I was looking for Delores because I needed prayer for a physical healing touch a miracle healing from the Lord. Whenever I called Pastor Ruby Spann for prayer,
I always got results. I fasted myself this month for several days,
learning from Bro. Hall’s books. This message is for Joan Gilliard and Carol
Obrien. I asked Sister Spann why she came to see me all the way to New
England to see me? She said, I love you. Awesome woman!! Thank you for all
your family did for me since 1979. Thank you very much for your payers. Holy Fire.
