Ivey Daniel Horton was born January 5, 1939, and raised in Madison, Florida. In 1956, he left for the United States Navy. Although he loved his home state of Florida, he settled in Savannah, Georgia. Ivey worked at various plants including GAF Plant, Johns Manville, Georgia Pacific, Genstar, GP Gyspum where he retired as a Millwright. He also served as a tug boat captain, which he often spoke of and wished he would have continued.
On May 25, 2023, after being a resident of Azalealand Nursing Home, Ivey Daniel Horton went to be with his Heavenly Father to his final resting place. He passed with his loved ones by his side while being under hospice care after a long history of health issues.
He was a son, father, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, father-in-law, grandfather, great grand father, great great grandfather, and a friend to many.
He was preceded in death by both parents Henry D. Horton and Mable Elizabeth Horton.
Ivey was also preceded in death by his brothers Franklin, James (JW), Paul Allen and his sisters Sallie Ruth, Jean Elizabeth, and daughter Rhonda Joyce Horton Vincent (Ronnie Vincent).
Ivey Daniel Horton is survived by his children Brian D. Horton (Melinda Faye), Ivey Danette Horton, Phyllis
Renee Horton (Brown), Charlotte Denise Horton (Rogers). Grand children Stacy Jeanette Vincent, Dewayne Horton (Tasha), April Renee Horton (Jon Dickinson), Stephanie Christine Horton, Casey Elaine McCurdy, Holly Denise St Cere, Eugene Lee Brown, Taylor Brianna Brown (Jeremy Veale) as well as 18 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ivey Daniel Horton will be remembered, missed, and loved by all who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Families First Funeral Care. The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
