Print This Obituary & CondolencesJames Alpheus “Al” Frazier was born on March 21, 1951, in Savannah, Georgia. He attended Groves High School where his passion for sports, like his older brothers, thrived. During his time at Groves High School, he achieved excellence in football and basketball, but it was in baseball that he truly excelled. This led to him being awarded an athletic scholarship at the esteemed Tuskegee University in Alabama, where he showcased his talent as a first baseman.
Subsequently, Al transferred to Morgan State University in Baltimore, where he obtained both his B.A. and M.A. in English Literature. After his academic journey, he assumed the role of head baseball coach at Dewitt Clinton High School in Bronx, New York. In this position, he served as a mentor to numerous young men, many of whom would go on to become distinguished individuals. Following this, he briefly returned to Morgan State University as an English teacher before eventually finding his way back to Savannah – his final resting place.
Al’s passing preceded that of his parents: Bishop Stephen and Mother Diana Frazier, along with his four brothers: Nathaniel, Solomon, Stephen, and Joseph, and his sister Mary “Diane”.
Left to cherish his memory is his surviving brother, Timothy Cornelius (Neli) Frazier, along with nieces LaDuanna (Cecil), Rachel, Stephanie (Mark), and Christina, and nephews Steven (Beverly), Kevin (Yasmine), Kenneth (Rona), and Solomon. Also mourning his loss are his sisters-in-law: Alice, Vendolyn, and Linda, as well as his esteemed “bonus” sister, Elaine Johnson (Apostle Dublin Johnson).
The impact of Al’s presence will be deeply felt by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
