Print This Obituary & CondolencesJean Campbell Remley slipped away peacefully at her home on September 18,2023 in the company of her devoted caregiver and son Tim following a long illness under Hospice care at home.Jean, a native of Savannah, was born on February 4, 1928, the third child of the late George and Aline (Cami) Campbell, Sr. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1947 where she was fated to meet and eventually marry the great love of her life, William (Willie) Remley, Jr. They were blessed to be able to celebrate their 65th anniversary together before William preceded his true love in death on October 29, 2014.Jean was definitely a people person with a real passion for helping others which eventually led her to become one of the first female Loan Officers at the C&S Bank in downtown Savannah. Not many can say they truly love going to work everyday but Jean enjoyed meeting new people so for her work was a joy. She cared about her co-workers and anyone that came to see her was greeted with that beautiful smile and kind nature which gained her many loyal customers. She was even serenaded by a love struck customer with his guitar. As much as she hated to leave, she retired after 38 years of service to spend more time with her family and friends all of which she adored. She was lifelong member of Memorial Baptist Church and was heartbroken when they finally closed their doors. Needing to find a new place of worship, she said a little prayer, put her trust in the Lord and starting driving around town. She later said that when she passed Wesley Monumental Methodist Church, her heart knew instantly that was where she belonged. A person of deep faith, she loved going to Sunday service to hear her Preacher inspire while listening to the beautiful music and participating in church activities such as their share and care program. It broke her heart when she could no longer attend due to illness but appreciated the church mailing her a CD each week so she could still listenand enjoy the service. She was known for her wonderful pralines which she insisted on baking for Christmas gifts each year no matter how tired or poorly she felt. She loved so many people that the list kept growing instead of shortening with age. Always compassionate and kind to anyone that was lucky enough to cross her path and forever giving of herself. She was a very loyal and devoted friend who always saw the good in people. She was a remarkable Mother that never hesitated to help her children. Not a selfish bone in her body, she truly believed in loving thy neighbor and being helpful to anyone in need and was never afraid to do so even in today’s tumultuous world. She loved the beach, any stray animal, cheering on her Ga. Bulldogs, keeping her flower garden pretty and watching the humming birds fluttering to her bird feeder while she sat on the deck enjoying company. Even as sick as she became she still made us all laugh with her sharp wit and sense of humor til the very end.Jean is survived by her two sons, Sam C. Remley (Marie), Tim T. Remley and daughter Beth R. Lewis (Carl) along with her cherished younger sister Barbara Train and many wonderful nieces, nephews and old friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings George Alexander Campbell, Jr. and Mary Campbell. We will forever miss her warmth, her generosity, that contagious laughter and beautiful spirit that was her.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 2:00 pm in Bonaventure Cemetery Greenwich section. In Lieu of flowers a donation to Hospice, Wounded Warriors, Children’s Cancer Research Fund or any life saving Animal shelter in remembrance of Jean would be greatly appreciated by her family.
