Savannah GA. Marie Louise Penney (Stone), age 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Born July 27, 1924 to Marie Carreiro Stone and Simon da Camara Stone of Lexington, MA. Marie graduated from Lexington High School in 1942 and Bryant & Stratton Business School in Boston.
Marie was married in 1946 in Bremerton, WA to former classmate, Rodney C. Penney. Rodney passed away on April 11, 1987, shortly after they retired and moved to Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, Florida. Marie is predeceased by two older sisters, Olga Stone Gardner of Cincinnati, Ohio and Virginia Stone Whitehouse of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Also deceased, their husbands: Nishon Neven Gardner and Arthur Wallace Whitehouse.
Marie leaves two sons, Steven Rodney Penney of Savannah, GA. and Norman Earl Penney of Lopatcong, NJ. She also leaves two grandchildren, William D. Kastning and Catherine Marie Kastning, her husband Cristian Muniz and their newborn baby Javi.
When Marie retired at age 60, she was an administrative assistant to a president and a vice-
president in Glen Rock, NJ. She served as a PTA president in Waldwick, NJ, Cub Scout Den Mother for many years, church altar guild member and wrote publicity for several groups.
After moving to Florida, she worked part time for the Sugarmill Property Owners Association and volunteered for the local Sheriff’s Station and Crime Watch Patrol. Marie was a Bereavement Volunteer for Hospice for several years and very active in her community.
In 2016, Marie moved to Savannah, Georgia to be closer to her son Steven.
Marie was a lung cancer survivor who had never smoked!
Marie was born a Roman Catholic but after marriage joined and was active in the Baptist Church in Newport, R I. Later the family was involved in the Congregational and Episcopal churches. She was spiritual, but did not attend a local church.
Remembrances may be sent in her memory to Hospice of Citrus County, Florida. Private funeral arrangements. Cremation.
