Mr. Aubrey Keaton, of Savannah, Georgia, departed this life on Monday, August 28, 2023, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Savannah, Georgia. He was seventy-two.
He was born on June 15, 1951 in Blue Mountain, Mississippi to the late B. W. Keaton and Amy Townsend Keaton. He graduated from B.F Ford High School in 1969, in New Albany, Mississippi and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy, beginning in 1970, where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His duty stations included Washington, DC., Puerto Rico, Spain, Iceland, Italy and Georgia, as well as two communications flagships. He served proudly for 26 years and retired in 1996.
Not one to rest on his laurels he embarked on another career in education which took him to Jefferson County, Georgia as an NJROTC Instructor. After a year he relocated to Savannah, Georgia, and for 17 years fulfilled his commitment to education as an NJROTC Instructor with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS). As an NJROTC Instructor, Aubrey mentored his students in ways of truth, respect, right standing, self-discipline, kindness and wisdom. He led as he lived with love, compassion, honor, and made a point to always be a person of integrity. This lifestyle has carried out throughout Aubrey’s journey and can be evidenced in the relationships of his family, friends and colleagues.
If retiring from two careers was not enough, he and his wife, Ruth have worked tirelessly, both as realtors at Neighborhood Realty Company in Savannah, Georgia. He helped give clients a “yes” to their dreams. But even if the answer was “no”, the clients left with pride and hope. He loved golf and was an avid golfer and a member of Crosswinds Golf Club. His competitive nature led to many proud wins.
Aubrey’s spirit was grounded in faith in God. He always was available to lend a helping hand advice or opinion (wanted or not), with his signature smile and jovial demeanor. He served Jesus faithfully at The Seed Church in Savannah, Georgia for 27 years in many capacities including small group leader, financial counselor, lead usher and media team.
Aubrey’s legacy will still thrive in the heritage of family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life and achievements: his wife, Ruth of 48 years; sons, Anthony and Mark and grandson, Isaiah all of Savannah; Brothers, B. W. Keaton, Jr., (deceased); Barry Keaton (Illinois) and Donald Keaton (Georgia). Sisters, Helen Williamson, (Indiana); Jeanette Meredith (Illinois) and Linda Nesbit (Georgia); Sisters-in-law, Jeanette Bowser (North Carolina) and Irene Martin, (Virginia). Brothers-in-law, Curtis Martin (Maryland) and Leonard Martin (District of Columbia). Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held at The Seed Church in Savannah, Ga on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 11:00 am.

I had the pleasure of crossing paths with Mr. Aubrey at Crosswinds Golf Club several years ago. Aubrey always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone. Played many rounds of golf with him and enjoyed every minute of it. Having a good round or not so good round Aubrey kept things in perspective. His demeanor was always jovial, golf is just a game, the friendships he made along the way are what mattered. We had many conversations about knee replacement (I had both knees replaced 3 years ago) he had questions and I had answers. I count it a privilege to call Aubrey my golfing friend, he will be deeply missed by all.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to this wonderful family. I have known the Keaton family for years. Linda and I are still best friends. We grew up in church together at Zion Chapel. And growing up I would always get to see Aubrey when he would be home on leave. He was always so funny, and loved his family. He always reminded me of Mr. BW so much. Looking like Mrs. Amy. They were my second parents.
I pray God gives you strength and comfort for the coming days. With love, from Leona Howell Dozier, New Albany, MS

For over 20 years you’ve been on our team at Neighborhood Realty, but you were so much more than a Realtor / Manager. You were a solid Christian friend, a shoulder when I lost my dad, a mentor, a strong male role model, a father figure to my children, a colleague, and sometimes a royal pain in my behind, but you always had my back and I loved you. You’ve encouraged me and believed in me, and you’ve prayed me through life. I cannot imagine our team without you! We will miss you deeply! Ruth, Mark, Akil, and Isaiah…I am so sorry for your loss!
Rest in peace my friend…

Dear Mrs. Keaton,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your husband. From his close golfing buddies and fellow veterans, we are deeply saddened by this loss. Aubrey was not just a passionate member of our elaborate golf association, but also a true brother in arms.
His dedication to the game was inspiring, and his presence on the golf course will be sorely missed. We all shared many memorable moments together, both on and off the fairways. The camaraderie and friendship we formed through our shared love for golf and our military experiences are truly irreplaceable.
During this difficult time, please know that the entire golfing community, especially the Savannah Senior Strikers, stands by you. We offer you our heartfelt sympathy and support. If there is anything we can do to ease your burden or provide comfort, please do not hesitate to reach out.
May you find solace in the cherished memories you shared with Aubrey. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
With deepest condolences,
Savannah Senior Strikers
