Donald Joseph Merchant, 82, of Guyton, Georgia, passed from this life on Friday, August 21st, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Champaign Urbana, Illinois on December 5th, 1937 to Donald Raymond Merchant and Helen Mae (Smith) Merchant. He graduated from Hammond Morton high School then attended & graduated from Washburn Trade School in Chicago.
Don was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers: John Lee & Jimmie Neal Merchant and a daughter, Linda Kay Merchant.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia Miller (Palmer) Merchant; five children, Brenda Kay Kilar and husband Donald E. Kilar, of Griffin, Georgia, Larry Joseph Merchant and wife Jane; of Guyton, Thomas Raymond Merchant and Tara Brunning of Guyton, Timothy Lee Neal Merchant and his wife Angela Merchant of Rincon, Kenneth Michael Merchant and Constance Tebeau of Springfield; eighteen grandchildren & twenty-seven great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members!
He was a plumber/pipe fitter for over forty years. Traveled construction with Fluer Daniels Construction from 1981-1990, worked at Intermarine Shipyard where he retired and began working in the plumbing department at Lowes until he retired in 2019. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Guyton.
He enjoyed his family & friends; Camping & Fishing, and our dog Chrissy Noel. He usually had a big smile & handshake for everyone. A very outgoing, jovial person who loved to talk and tell jokes to all!
