Mrs. Evelyn (Everlina) Wiley was born October 17, 1923 on Daufuski Island, South Carolina to the union of Harry and Elizabeth Mungin. She was the first of five children: Nathaniel, Harry, Ervin and Lillie Mae, all deceased.
Evelyn attended the only island school, Mary Field. She joined Union Baptist Church at a young age. At 16 she left South Carolina for Tybee Island, Georgia to seek employment.
At age 19, Evelyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Calvin Wiley on October 26, 1942. They moved to Miami, Florida where they remained until Calvin’s demise in 2003. After 61 years of marriage she returned to Savannah to reside with her daughter.
Evelyn was a kind and gentle person, well loved by all her family and friends. She loved God, but due to health issues was not able to serve Him as she wished by attending Church regularly, but her love was evident. On April 17, 2013 at 5:25 AM, Evelyn was summoned home by her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her sister: Lillie Mae King; brothers: Nathaniel. Harry, Ervin Mungin; a great grandson: Canaan Brunson. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter and caregiver, Ms. Alvenia Calloway; grandchildren: Eugene (Patricia) Calloway, Jr. of McDonough, Georgia, Kenneth (Angie) Calloway of Savannah, Georgia, Tammy (Elijah) Hunter of East Meadows, New York; great grandchildren: Eugene Calloway, III of Savannah, Georgia, Sheree Garcia of Washington State, Kenneth Calloway, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, Kevin Brunson of Lithia Springs, Georgia, Cana Brunson of East Meadows, New York, great, great granddaughters of Washington State; nieces: Doris Grand of Bluffton, South Carolina, Jessie May Miller, Rose Marie Gaither of Savannah, Georgia, Sonia McEwan of Miami, Florida; nephew: Earnest Grant of Savannah, Georgia; sisters-in-law: Janie Simmons, Evenena Gibbs of Savannah, Georgia; brothers-in-law: Ernest Wiley of Savannah, Georgia, Frank Wiley of Daufuski Island, South Carolina; several cousins, one very special/sister: Mrs. Gladys Stafford of Riverview Rehabilitation of Savannah, Georgia; a host of friends, many of whom still reside in Miami, Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Families First Funeral Care, 1328 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia 31405.
For the special care and concern shown the family, we give our thanks to you, the staff of Memorial University Medical Center, third floor and MSI staff and Doctors: Rahimi, Kumijian, Northup and Auramoski for the care given to our loved one. A special thank you to Spanish Oaks Hospice for the excellent and special care given to Evelyn and family. We thank God for Ms. Dorothy Phoenix for the care and concern she provided to Mrs. Wiley while home bound. To the many sisters and brothers from the organization that provided prayers, comfort, strength, calls, words of encouragement at home and at the hospital. May God forever bless each and every one of you.
