Lenora B.Jackson was born December 29, 1934 in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late Mrs. Elizabeth Wallace and Mr. Richard Beckett. She is the second eldest child and graduated first in her class in 1952. She later became a licensed Cosmetologist, skilled in horticulture and studied at Savannah State College. She was the first African-American woman hired by the K-Mart Corporation in Savannah, Georgia.
Bell was raised in Hopewell C.M.E. Church, Garnett, South Carolina as a child where she later became a Sunday School Teacher. In August of 1953 she married Willie Jackson and to this union they reared six children. She began her service in Bethel in 1954 and was a Trustee, President of Stewardess Board #2 where she was President Emeritus. She was President of the Camellia Garden Club and went on to become a state-wide judge of Garden Club Shows. She was a member of the ILA retirees, Raggedy Ann Club and the East Savannah Community Association.
She leaves to cherish six devoted children. Willie Jackson of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, Patrice Jackson (Margaret) of Douglasville, Georgia, David Jackson, Sacramento, California, Joyce Jackson, Norma Babbs (David) and Victoria Jackson of Savannah, Georgia; Siblings, Clarice Randolph of Long Island, New York, Zenobia Mitchell, of Brooklyn, New York, Nancy Wilcox and Reverend Eunice Bryant of Estill, South Carolina, Marion Becket (Barbara), Savannah, Georgia and Henry Beckett (Brenda) of Estill, South Carolina. She has over twenty grandchildren, over ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 13th, 2015 at 11:00 am at Bethel A.M.E Church, 1814 East 38th Street in Savannah, Georgia. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park – West.
