Tammy (Bass) Hillner, age 61, passed away in her home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 by complications
of Huntington’s Disease. Tammy was a loving wife of 22 years to Larry Hillner and Mother of three.
Tammy was born in September of 1962 in Arkansas. She resided in Arkansas until the age of 5 with her
mom and Stepfather, Fern and Harry Wilson, and eventually moved to Wilmington Island where she
attended grade school at May Howard Elementary. She graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in
1980. In High School, she enjoyed singing and twirling baton. She received a degree in Data Entry, with
honors, at Draughons Junior College in 1986 and obtained a Bachelors in Business Administration from
South University while raising her three young children.
In her adult years, she had an eye for finances that assisted her with excelling in her career path. She
had titles such as secondary loan officer and loan manager at multiple locations including when she lived
in Germany with her husband for three years. Her husband was really impressed with her ability to
learn the German Language so quickly in order to pursue her passion in finances across seas. Tammy
also loved being a grandmother to her 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She loved to spend
time with her husband by going to Nascar Races, going to grandkid’s baseball games and always up for
traveling. She also enjoyed relaxing at home with a totty and watching game shows like Survivor and
was a sucker for True Crime TV.
Tammy was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in June 2019. She found simple pleasures such as
watching Gunsmoke with Larry. She enjoyed visiting with everyone that stopped in and wanted to chat,
especially her family and her friends. She was devoted to loving her husband with a smile on her face.
During her time at home, she enjoyed getting her hair brushed by her friend Pam and taking baths in her
new walk in spa tub.
Tammy was preceded in death by her mother Fern Wilson, StepFather Harry Wilson III, siblings Carlton
Bass and Cynthia (Bass) Bird.
She is survived by her husband Larry Hillner, Daughter Amy Bunton (Phil), Son Jeremy Bunton, Son
Nathan Bunton (Christine), Step Daughters: Shown Koelbel (Josh), Suesen Dresch (Steve), Michelle
Doerfler (Nathaniel), Grandchildren: Tara, Preston, Paige, Tyler, Bryce, Natalie, Aaliyah, Darrius, Chelsea
(Kore), Alexis, Haley, Madelyn, Brennan, Julia, Arthur, Kathryn and Great Grandchild: Raegan.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice of Statesboro and their amazing
team (Monica and Jessie), Daughter Amy, neighbors Pam Graffagnino, Mark, Jonathan, Colin, Natalie
and friend Brittany for helping with Tammy’s care.
