Maebell Thomas

September 21, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Maebell Thomas, age 93, peacefully went on to the Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2014 after a long illness.

She was a member of Montgomery Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Norman Thomas; her son, Alonzo Mack; her sister Eloise Curry, and one granddaughter Elizabeth A. Cope, Maebell Thomas was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Her greatest love was her family.

She is survived by her only living child, daughter Ella M. Washington, one brother, Arthur Miller; four grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 36 great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bobby Smith

September 20, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Bobby Smith, age 81, of Savannah passed away Saturday, September 20th, at Candler Hospital.

A native of Savannah, he was the son of Clyde Smith and Merle Graham Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Savannah High School Class of 1951, he was also a member of the American Legion Post 135, the Mary Calder Golf Club, and The Chapel in the Gardens Presbyterian Church in Garden City. Bobby retired from Union Camp Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Joseph Smith; two sons, Joseph Graham Smith (Jennifer) of Darien and Morris Glenn Smith of Savannah & one grandson, Samuel Justus Smith of Tupelo, Mississippi.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24th from 10 AM to 11 AM at Chapel in the Gardens Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services at 11 AM in the Church, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park – West.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions to the Building Repair Fund, Chapel in the Gardens Presbyterian Church, 93 Main Street, Garden City, GA 31408.

Brenda Joyce Boykin

September 19, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Brenda Joyce Boykin of Port Wentworth, age 71, passed on Friday at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Brenda was born December 9, 1942 in Savannah. She attended the public schools of Chatham County and was graduated from R. W. Groves High School in 1961. She esteemed herself as a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. Her life was taken by a particularly aggressive form of colon cancer that outraced the best efforts of her Physicians.

She was predeceased by her parents Oscar and Joyce Boykin, her infant son Mitchell and her good friend Libby Warren.

She is survived by her children Maurice John (Johnny) Stark III and his partner Brandy Wood of Marietta GA; daughter and son-in-law Leila and Henry Perkins of Savannah GA; daughter Michelle and son-in-law Jack Caldwell of Port Wentworth; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Donnette Boykin of Pace FL; sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Andy Weaver of Casa Grande AZ; grandchildren Jennifer Stark, Nicole Stark, George Perkins, Amber Stark, Ashley Garrett, Johnathan Stark and Maurice John (Reece) Stark IV and great- grandchildren Destiny Moore, Jimmy Moore and Ayden Horton.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Monday from 6-8 PM at Families First Funeral Care.

Special thanks are given to Dr Christopher Haberman and his staff at Summit Cancer Care, who fought for Brenda’s recovery and gave compassionate support to her family throughout the process.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial Health University Medical Center or the cancer research facility of your choosing.

Patricia King Turnbow Pendleton

September 10, 2014 - Leave a Condolence

Patricia King Turnbow Pendleton, age 64, of Jesup passed away Wednesday, September 10th, 2014 at her residence.

A native of Savannah, Patricia was born on November 25, 1949 to Walter Marion King and Lillie Mae Wilkerson King.

Patricia loved to cook, loved "garage sale-ing", loved her dogs, and loved fishing. During her extended illness she accepted Jesus as her Saviour and was baptized…Praise the Lord!

Preceded in death by her parents, her son Richard Howard Turnbow, Jr. and a brother William Franklin King, she is survived by two brothers, Ronnie M. (Jeri) King of Pooler and Richard Timothy King of Port Wentworth; her longtime and very devoted companion Charles Pendleton; a special devoted friend and caregiver June Carter; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11 AM at Families First Funeral Care followed by Funeral Services at 11 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park – West.

Donations may be made in Patricia’s memory to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Boulevard, Jesup, Georgia, 31545.

James Patrick Flanagan

Mr. James P. Flanagan

– Ellabell – James Patrick Flanagan, aka "Herbie", age 73 of Ellabell, passed away Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital with family and a few friends beside him.

Mr. Flanagan was one of the 18 children born to Matthew and Alice Flanagan of Brooklyn, New York. He married Nancy Jean Flanagan on October 7th, 1970 and would have been married 44 years this October. They moved to Georgia in 1978, where Mr. Flanagan worked as a blacksmith, truck driver (blue-eyed driver), and a jack-of-all-trades, but always donated most of his time to people and animals in need. He was a member of The Coastal GA VW Club, Dixieland Cruisers and Companion Animal Aid (rescued dogs).

James was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Gabriella Southwell (Statesboro, GA) and Elizabeth and Timothy Foy (Springfield, GA) and several brothers and sisters. James is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean Flanagan; daughters Deana Flanagan-Morgan (Springfield, GA) and Mary Pat (James) Fiess (Bel Air, MD); sons James P. "J.P." Flanagan (Ellabell, GA), James P. "Jimmy" Flanagan and wife Maria Flanagan (Bel Air, MD) and Thomas M. Flanagan (Bel Air, MD); 12 grandchildren, Robert "Robbie" Crews II (Rincon, GA), Heather and Dakota Brewer (Gracey, KY), Cameron and Dillon Crews (Springfield, GA), Aron P. Lewis (Ellabell, GA), James P. Lee (Brooklet, GA), Joseph, Jamie and Jennifer Flangan (Bel Air, MD), Taylor, Ryan and Shawn Fiess (Bel Air, MD) and one great granddaughter, Katelynn Rae Brewer (Gracey, KY).

The family received friends on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 3-6 p.m. at Families First Funeral Care.
