Print This Obituary & CondolencesAlvenia “Venia” Calloway a long-time resident of Savannah, GA, passed away at Hospice Savannah on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Alvenia had been battling ovarian cancer. She was 80 years of age.
Alvenia is preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Williams Calloway; her mother, Evelyn Wiley, and her father, John Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Eugene (Patricia) Calloway, Jr.; her daughter, Tammy (Elijah) Calloway Hunter; grandchildren – Sherree (Robert) Calloway Garcia; Eugene W. Calloway, III; Kevin Lavon Calloway-Brunson, Jr.; Kenneth W. Calloway, Jr.; Cana (I.K.) Brunson Obaisi; siblings – Carolyn Mitchell; Michael Mitchell; Darryl (Cynthia) Mitchell; Gregory (Muzette) Mitchell; Linda Nolden; Ronald Comer; Randy (Justina) Comer; Ronald Hinton (deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alvenia was born on Daufuskie Island, SC on July 30, 1939. She graduated from Alfred E. Beach High School and went on to earn a nursing degree (LPN) from Savannah Area Technical College. She worked as a nurse for over 15 years at Memorial Hospital. She retired from Georgia Regional.
Alvenia loved to cook and generously shared her cooking with others. She loved fishing, crabbing, visiting casinos, and traveling. She enjoyed attending church services and loved family gatherings. She will be forever remembered for her infectious smile, quick wit, and kind words. She is already missed beyond measure, as there are many lives she touched while here with us.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Alvenia, (date to be determined) and asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ovariancancerinstitute.org or on cashapp $msvyne to be donated on your behalf.

Print This Obituary & CondolencesRose Marie Williams Vergas Guilliams (Aunt Rosie), age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2020, at PruittHealth – Seaside in Port Wentworth under the care of Pruitt Hospice with her loving family and the many nurses that took such good care of her for so many years. (Her special nurses: Phyllis Cole, Missy Nunnley, Donna Coleman, JoAnn Behrens & Consuela Meyers.)
She was a housewife and volunteered for YMCA Raleigh, North Carolina for many years. In addition to her first husband Alexander Vergas, she was preceded in death by her second husband Larry Guilliams; her parents, Jack Alexander Williams, Sr. and Edna Juanita Sanders Williams; brothers, Jack A., Jr., Marion, Carold and Johnny Williams; sisters, June Davis and Virginia Williams and daughter-in-law, Melanie Vergas.
She is survived by one son, Alexander Vergas and one granddaughter, Angela Vergas; her niece, Carolyn Boone; great-nieces, Wendy Boone & Teresa Hosti (with whom she lived prior to going to the nursing home); niece, Brenda Builderback & nephews, Johnny Williams and Johnny West.
