Inez Elizabeth Martin of Pooler, GA left her earthly life on Friday, Feb 28th after a short stay in Hospice.
Born in Taylor’s Creek, GA on April 17th, 1929 she experienced an amazing 93 years. Inez moved to Pooler when she was around 6 years old where she lived for the rest of her life. She was a life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler, GA where she held many offices including serving as President of the United Methodist Women, mentoring youth, organizing holiday programs, and teaching Sunday School, which she did for many years, most recently as leader of the “Gleaners” ladies class. Inez traveled the world through books and magazines (so many magazines) and was a consummate history buff. She began her career at Central of Georgia’s Railway Hospital, worked at S. A. Allen as a bookkeeper. After she retired, she opened a dress shop. After retiring again, she went to work at the Savannah Visitor’s Center Museum which she dearly loved. We remember her as a fashionable and modern woman who was devoted to her nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Colan C and Ella Von Bergen Martin, her brother, Colan “Buck” Martin and a sister, Idle Martin Ray.
Inez is survived by 2 sisters, Ann Martin Bashlor of Baxley, GA and Mary Ellen Martin Stafford of Augusta, GA; a flurry of nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by every one of us.
We will celebrate her life on Saturday, March 4th at 2pm at Trinity Methodist Church in Pooler, GA with family visitation at 1:30.
