Daniel Winfield Blitch – March, 4, 1944 – May 9, 2026 (82)

Daniel “Danny” Blitch, beloved husband, father, and brother, died on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Savannah, GA. Born on March 4, 1944, to George Austin Blitch and Sue Nell Yeomans, Danny grew up in the Coastal Empire he loved deeply.

A graduate of Savannah High School, he attended Brewton-Parker College and later graduated from the University of Georgia, where he met the love of his life, Patricia Anne Winn. Their first date was a UGA Football game. They married in 1968 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist, and built a devoted, joyful life together. Danny worked in sales with Power Hydraulics of Savannah, Semco, Inc., and later retired from Custom Construction Home Services. Served as President of the Savannah Jaycees and as a Troop 88 Leader for the Boy Scouts of America at St. James Parish.

Danny is survived by his wife Patricia Winn Blitch; his twin brother, David Austin Blitch (Bettie Anne); his sister, Marie Blitch Conley; his sons, Daniel W. Blitch II (Cynthia) and Steven C. Blitch (Jennifer); his grandchildren Madisson, Zack, and Taylor; as well as many extended family members.

He loved his family, his friends, the Georgia Bulldogs – Go DAWGS!, the City of Savannah, and nighttime strolls combing the beach at Tybee Island. His generous spirit, quick humor, and big heart touched everyone who knew him and he will be deeply missed.

The visitation and celebration of life will be held at Families First Funeral Care & Cremation Center, 1328 Dean Forest Road, Savannah, Georgia on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 1pm.

Mrs. Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Smalls, 81, of Savannah, peacefully transitioned at home under hospice care on May 8, 2026, surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy illness.

Born in Waynesboro to Dublin David Robinson and Louise Jones Daniels, Barbara was known for her loving spirit, strong faith, and dedication to caring for others. She faithfully served as a baptized Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1975 and touched many lives through her ministry and her 20 plus years of service with the Chatham County School System as a bus driver and Hyatt Regency as a banquet server.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Smalls Sr.; daughter, Phaedra Smalls; and son-in-law, McKinley Habersham Sr.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her children: Van Mack Robinson (Cheryl), Leon Smalls Jr. (Monà), Monica Wilson (Craig), Sabrina Smalls, Leron Smalls Sr., Latesha Habersham-Baker (Jermaine), Avis Smalls, and Nieves Bowles (Edwin); 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings; and a host of extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah, 630 E. Henry Street, Savannah, GA 31401. Repast to follow.

We pause to pay tribute to the life and celebrate the homegoing of Dr. Anthony M. Georges, the third of six children, Peter, Godfrey, the late Abraham, Apostle Alvin, and Phyllis, born to the union of The Late Assoumany and Ruth Georges on February 1, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, and departed this Life peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Grace Manor in Savannah, Georgia.

Anthony, affectionately called Tony, began his formative education in Brooklyn at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in 1952. While attending the school, Tony served as an Altar Boy in the Tridentine Traditional Catholic Mass, which required knowledge of Latin and excellent behavior. In 1960, Tony attended Boys High School in Brooklyn. After graduation, in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years as a Quarter Master Sergeant in the Vietnam War.

Tony Quest’s goal was to pursue further education, so upon completing his service in the United States Army in 1968, he attended Alfred University in New York, where he received his Associate Degree. Then in 1971, he pursued his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and then later pursued a Master’s Degree of Business in Finance, both from Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. Tony became employed at the New York Stock Exchange as a Floor Trader.

While working in finance, he met Genevieve Watson. They were married and resided in New Rochelle, NY. From this union was born one daughter, Kamilah.

Then, not feeling quite complete, he went on to receive his Master’s in Education at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York. He became a teacher in the public school and Catholic school system, and later became an Assistant Principal at All Saints School in New York City. He later became the principal and received his Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University. Tony retired and decided to move to Georgia to be near his daughter, Kamilah.

Tony leaves to mourn his daughter, Kamilah, his son-in-law, Nkemjika Mac Godwin, his grandson, Nkenna Anthony Godwin, his daughter, Nailah Watson, his grandson, Noah Rodriguez-Watson, his grandson, Owen Rodriguez-Watson, his granddaughter, Jara Rodriguez-Watson, his siblings, Peter, and Godfrey Georges. Sister-in-Law Barbara Georges and Annette Georges, Nieces, Grace Fatima Georges, Sophia Georges, Ivanna Georges, Cherise Georges-Davis, and his Nephews, Christopher, Alvin, Jeremy, Celestine, and Remer Georges, as well as other Family members and his lifetime friend, Ms. Dorothy Swanson, along with a host of other friends.

Russell H. “Russ” Smith, 76, passed quietly in his sleep at his home in Savannah, Georgia, on April 29, 2026.

Russ was born on October 12, 1949, in Millfield, Ohio, to Robert Lowell Smith and Bonnie North Smith. After graduating from high school, he moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he attended vocational school with a concentration in technology.

In 1969, Russ joined the United States Air Force. His service brought him to Savannah, Georgia, where he was assigned to the 702nd Radar Squadron. Savannah would become the place he called home and where he met the love of his life, Deborah Powers Smith. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force in April 1973, Russ and Deborah were married in June 1973, beginning a devoted marriage that lasted 53 years.

Russ was a longtime and valued employee of Savannah Tire, where he spent the majority of his career in the automotive business. He approached his work with honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility, earning the respect of coworkers, customers, and friends throughout the years.

Outside of work, Russ enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved reading mystery and crime novels, cooking — especially breakfast — and tending to his yard. He enjoyed creating and building things and had a special ability to see potential in even the smallest and most ordinary objects. Russ was happiest living simply, surrounded by the people and routines he loved most.

Above all, Russ will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. His quiet strength, steady presence, and kind heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Powers Smith; his daughter, Alison Smith Wildes; and his sister, Robin Hampton. He is also survived by many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jeffrey Smith and Randall Smith, and his sister, Dorothy Downs.

A quiet burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on May 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a gathering at the family home in Wilmington Park where loved ones are invited to share memories and condolences.

Leszek Ziółkowski, 66, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and will miss him
every single day.

Leszek was the kind of man who made people feel at home the moment they met him. He had a warm smile, an open heart, and a way of showing up for others without ever being asked. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he was steady, loving, and endlessly giving — always putting his family first and making sure they felt supported and cared for.

He was born on March 31, 1960, in Warsaw, Poland, where he built the foundation of a life defined by hard work and resilience. After graduating from technical school, he dedicated himself to construction, eventually owning companies that built homes and apartments. He took pride in what he created, knowing that each building became part of someone else’s story.

Outside of work, Leszek enjoyed life in a simple, genuine way. He loved watching tennis and sports, traveling, and most of all, being surrounded by his family. Moving to Savannah with his wife to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren was one of the happiest chapters of his life. Nothing meant more to him than time spent together.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Martyna Ziółkowska; his daughters, Kasia and her husband Marcin, and Sylwia and her husband Cory; and his treasured grandchildren, Victor, Scarlett, and Maya, who brought him endless joy and pride.

A memorial service to celebrate Leszek’s life will be held at Families First Funeral Care and Cremation Center, 1328 Dean Forest Rd., Savannah, GA 31405, on Monday, May 11,
2026, at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come together, share memories, and honor a man who gave so much of himself to others.

Leszek will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he made people feel — welcomed, cared for, and loved. His presence was a gift, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Leszek był człowiekiem, który sprawiał, że ludzie czuli się jak w domu od pierwszej chwili spotkania. Miał ciepły uśmiech, otwarte serce i potrafił być przy innych, nawet bez proszenia. Jako mąż, ojciec i dziadek był stały, kochający i nieskończenie oddany — zawsze stawiał rodzinę na pierwszym miejscu i dbał, by czuła się wspierana i otoczona opieką.

Urodził się 31 marca 1960 roku w Warszawie, gdzie zbudował fundament życia opartego na ciężkiej pracy i wytrwałości. Po ukończeniu szkoły technicznej poświęcił się budownictwu, a z czasem został właścicielem firm budujących domy i mieszkania. Był dumny z tego, co tworzył, wiedząc, że każdy budynek staje się częścią czyjejś historii.

Poza pracą Leszek cieszył się życiem w prosty, szczery sposób. Uwielbiał oglądać tenis i sport, podróżować, a najbardziej — przebywać w gronie rodziny. Przeprowadzka do Savannah wraz z żoną, by być bliżej córek i wnuków, była jednym z najszczęśliwszych rozdziałów jego życia. Nic nie znaczyło dla niego więcej niż wspólnie spędzony czas.

Pozostawił ukochaną żonę, z którą spędził 46 lat, Martynę Ziółkowską; córki — Kasię z mężem Marcinem oraz Sylwię z mężem Corym; a także ukochane wnuki — Victora, Scarlett i Mayę, które przynosiły mu nieustanną radość i dumę.
