Gladys Lewis, a cherished member of the Savannah community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on June 29, 1937, in Scarboro, Georgia, Gladys was known for her unwavering love and devotion to her family and her community.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Adel and Lindsey Salisbury, her husband, Willie Lee Lewis Sr.; a son, Anthony Lewis; and a grandson Marques Lewis. Her life was a tapestry of familial love, woven deeply with cherished memories and enduring bonds.

Gladys leaves behind a legacy of generosity and kindness. She is survived by her children, who were the pride and joy of her life: sons and daughter-in-law, Willie Lee (Danica) Lewis, Jr., and Richard Lewis; daughters, Cynthia Cokley and Sharon Lewis; grandchildren, Tawanda Dunbar, Dwayne Randall, Adrienne Moore, Jarret Grier, Steven Lewis, Sedane Lewis, Devin Doyle, Devon Doyle, Tavarus Doyle, Isaiah Lewis, Kiana Lewis, Rashamel Lewis; a great-grandchild, Eboney Magwood; as well as great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Pierce.

Her spirit lives on through her family and the many lives she touched throughout her journey. Her family remembers her as a beacon of strength, a tireless supporter, and a dedicated friend whose laughter and warmth will be profoundly missed.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and celebrate Gladys’s remarkable life at her funeral service on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The service will be held at Families First Funeral Care & Cremation Center, where arrangements have been entrusted.

Though she is no longer with us in this life, Gladys’s influence will live on through the lives she touched and the profound love she gave. May she rest in peace, forever remembered and cherished in the hearts of many.

Joanne Kandel Leaf, 95, of Savannah, Georgia entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026, surrounded by her family in her home of 64 years.

Joanne was born to Harry and Estelle Kandel and raised in downtown Savannah.  She graduated from Savannah High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from Georgia State College for Women in 1951.  She spent her career educating students in Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, most notably at Butler Elementary School where she met her forever friend Debbie Debrauwere.  Joanne’s greatest accomplishment, however, was raising 5 children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Hunter.

Joanne leaves behind to be grateful for her love, laughter, and wisdom, her children, Hunter (Joyce Ann) Leaf III, Jan (Johnnie) Wiggins, Harry Leaf, Kathy Leaf, and Karen (Terry) Otto; her grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Jenkins, Blake (Beth Ann) Jenkins, Clint (Kate) Jenkins, Joanna (Trey) Brooks, Whitney (Derek) Hamm, Jordan (McKenzie) Cicero-Otto, Skylar Leaf, and Isabelle Leaf; and great-grandchildren, Jacie Jenkins, Randy Jenkins, Collyn Jenkins, Maggie Jenkins, Taylor Jenkins, Case Jenkins, James Brooks, Matthew Hamm, Hunter Brooks, Lizzie Hamm, Piper Brooks, and Marin Brooks, as well as many others who affectionately called her “Nana”.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Leaf Jr., her parents, Harry and Estelle Kandel, her sister and brother-in-law, Phillippa and Bob Paddison, her brother and sister-in-law George and Nancy Kandel, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nancy and Saxon Wolfe, her son-in-law, Randy Jenkins, her daughter-in-law, Cathy Leaf, and her granddaughter, Annie Cogdell.

Joanne was a big fan of black coffee, crossword puzzles, Braves baseball, black licorice Jelly Beans, and a good Old Fashioned, but she wasn’t much for being the center of attention.  Therefore, a private memorial service will be held to honor her wishes and her legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 2 St. Thomas Avenue, Savannah, Ga 31406, where Joanne was known and loved as “The Cookie Lady”.

Rosalie Wilson, 87 Passed away April 8, 2026.

A native of, New York she was the Daughter of Salvatore DeSantis and Sarafina Yanni.

Cashier for 40 years at many restaurants and Department stores. High school graduate at Island Trees High School, and a devout catholic.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wilson.

Survivors include Son Christopher Wilson, and two Daughters Robin Merting and Theresa Jacob’s.

Mary Katherine Davis Penn

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Mary Katherine Davis Penn, “Kay”, 95, of Gaithersburg, Maryland,
announces her passing, March 19, 2026 in Savannah, Georgia. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and “Mema” to many.
Kay was born in Hillsboro, Ohio, to Mary Louise (Roads) Davis and Russell E. Davis. She grew up in
Hyattsville, Maryland, and was a loving big sister to Martha, and her “baby brother” Bill.
Kay graduated in 1947 from McKinley High School in Washington D.C. and worked as a Buyer for Woodward
& Lothrop in Washington D.C. After attending Secretarial and Accounting School at Strayer University, she
was employed as a secretary at Fisher Scientific Inc., in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she met the love of her
life, Edgar Revell Penn (Rev). They married in 1952, and became the proud parents of three children, Mary
Louise, Russ, and Mike. In 1965 they moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland.
While raising their children, Kay and Rev enjoyed numerous weekend family camping trips as well as summer
vacations, traveling to Canada, Myrtle Beach, and back to her hometown of Hillsboro, Ohio. Kay was a
secretary for Samuel E. Bogley Real Estate in Gaithersburg, the First National Bank of Maryland in
Gaithersburg, and Long and Foster Real Estate in Rockville, Maryland. After Rev’s passing in 1981, Kay
remained in her house and lived independently for 43 additional years.
In retirement, Kay enjoyed spending time as an active member of Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, where she
served numerous leadership roles, including Elder of the church, Clerk of Sessions for over ten years, and
member of the Congregational Care Committee, which had primary responsibility for the church’s commercial
kitchen.
She also had a passion for genealogy, and was very involved in the Goshen Mills Chapter of the National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution, where she held various roles and enjoyed attending both local
meetings, state conferences, and Continental Congress with her daughter, Mary Louise Metzger. She was a
member of several lineage and genealogical societies, including DAR, Colonial Dames of the 17 th Century,
Southern Dames of America, and the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society.
Kay’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, and was known as everyone’s “Mema”. Kay was
best known for her reliability, independence, and her unwavering determination to always get the job done. Kay
spent her final days in Savannah, Georgia with her daughter, Mary Louise Metzger, son and daughter-in-law,
Mike and Vivian Penn, granddaughter Nicole Pope, and precious great-granddaughters. The family wishes to
thank Georgia Hospice Care for their kind care and loving support.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother Mary Louise (Roads) Davis, father Russell E. Davis, husband Edgar
Revell Penn, sister Martha Ellen Aisquith, and son George Russell Penn.
Kay is survived by her brother William Russell Davis (Patty), daughter Mary Louise Metzger (Michael), son
Michael Revell Penn (Vivian), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and
nephews, as well as many friends who she loved greatly.
A Celebration of Kay’s Life will be held on June 20, 2026, 11:00 AM, at Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church,
610 S. Frederick Avenue, 20877.
