Lydia was born in Rincon, Georgia on January 10, 1995. She grew up in Effingham County and went to Sand Hill
Elementary and South Effingham middle school and high school. She transferred to Youth Challenge at Fort Gordon in
Augusta, Georgia where she excelled in her classes and physical training and graduated in 2011.
Anyone that knew Lydia knew that she struggled in life and that she wrestled with drug addiction. But back before she began down that path, Lydia was a regular kid and a typical teenager with likes and dislikes, just like anyone else.
As a baby her parents marveled that she loved to suck on spicy Vlasic pickle spears until there was nothing but the
peeling left. She learned how to climb before she could walk. One day her dad, Kelley, was at home alone with the kids recovering from some minor surgery. All the kids were playing outside and Kelley heard a commotion. When he went outside the kids all pointed up to the top of a Scotch pine tree where 3 year old Lydia had climbed. So Kelley, in his post-op state, climbed up the tree after her. Fortunately they both made it down safely.
Some other fun facts about Lydia are that she loved playing basketball in middle school and was a great defensive
player. She’s always loved southern food – especially collard greens and mac and cheese! Her sisters say that she had a contagious laugh and would always make everyone around her laugh even on their worst days.
In 2012 Lydia married the love of her life, Calvin Collins, Jr., and later that year moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida and had their first son Calvin Collins, III, who they nicknamed Tre. About a year later she and Calvin were blessed with another son, Caleb. Even though Lydia and Calvin later divorced, the boys have always been on her mind and in her heart. She loved them fiercely.
Lydia’s love for all children was evident when she helped out with Children’s Church at Parkway Church of Christ.
She attended Parkway as a child and was baptized early in life and was again baptized as an adult when she rededicated her life. Lydia had hoped life would turn out differently for her and was planning another round of rehab the last time she spoke with family. Her family is devastated and pray that she is in the arms of Jesus and reunited with her precious mother, Sherry.
Lydia was preceded in death by her mother, Sherry Woodward and paternal grandparents, Erwin and Virginia Woodward, as well as, her sons’ father, Calvin Collins, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Tre and Caleb Collins, father, Kelley Woodward (Angie), brothers, James and Michael Woodward, sisters, Virginia Woodward and Rachel Peszynski, maternal grandmother, Bertha Nutting, nephews, Eli Woodward and Will Arkwright, and nieces, Eve Woodward, Kali Peszynski and Ivy Woodward.
A visitation with the family will be from 9:30-10:00 am on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Compassion Christian East Campus, 9150 Old Montgomery Road, Savannah, Georgia 31406 with the memorial service immediately following at 10:00.
