IT IS SAID THERE ARE WORDS IN THE ENGLISH VOCABULARY THAT ARE MORE SOLEMN THAN ALL OF THE OTHERS. THEY ARE LIFE, DEATH, AND ETERNITY. LIFE IS MORE SOLEMN THAN DEATH; TO LIVE IS MORE SERIOUS THAN TO DIE. THE OBJECT OF CHRIST’S DEATH WAS LIFE. A CHRISTIAN’S DEATH GIVES HIM A MORE ABUNDANT LIFE. DEATH IS A JOYFUL MESSENGER OF PEACE WHOSE KIND HAND OPENS TO THE WEARY PILGRIM THE GATE OF IMMORTALITY AND LETS THE OPRESSED GO FREE. DEATH TO A CHRISTIAN IS MOVING OUT OF THIS COLD, FRIENDLESS, DARK WORLD INTO ETERNAL DAYLIGHT. A CHRISTIAN’S LIFE CAME TO A CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28th, 2018 WHEN MARIE E. JOHNSON (AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN BY HER GRANDDAUGHTER MARIA AS GEE GA) WAS CALLED TO HER HEAVENLY HOME.
SHE WAS BORN MAY 19TH, 1938 TO THE LATE MR. LAUNEY F. ROBERTS SR. AND ANETHA MAE ROBERTS IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA. SHE WAS A GRADUATE OF ALFRED E. BEACH HIGH SCHOOL IN 1955. HER EARLY CHRISTIAN AFFILIATION STARTED AT PALEN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WHERE SHE JOINED THE CHURCH UNDER “PRAYER CHANGES THINGS.” MARIE GRADUATED FROM MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER IN 1975, RECEIVING HER LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSING DEGREE. IN LATER YEARS AFTER MUCH TRAVELS WITH HER HUSBAND, FINLEY, AND THE FAMILY IN THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, SHE WAS INVOLVED IN SUCH CHAPEL ORGANIZATIONS AS PROTESTANT WOMEN OF THE CHAPEL AND A SOPRANO SINGER IN THE SENIOR CHOIR. ON FEBRUARY 10th, 1984 AT THE HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD OFFICER’S CLUB, MARIE WAS RECOGNIZED AS AN HONORED GUEST AT THE NATIONAL PRAYER LUNCHEON BY THE COMMANDING GENERAL. THE SCRIPTURE TAKEN FROM THE MESSAGE “THE ROMAN CENTURION” WAS MATTHEW 8:5-13. SHE WAS A WONDERFUL AND AMAZING WIFE, MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER. NO WORDS CAN EXPRESS HOW HER CAPTIVATING SMILE AND PHYSICAL PRESENCE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. THE FAMILY LOVES YOU SO MUCH.
