Melisa Ortiz, age 39, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 at her home in Savannah after a lengthy illness..
Born May 28, 1982 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Anthony and Salvy Ortiz. Being a Military child Melisa grew up throughout the United States to include Hawaii. She eventually planted roots in Maryland and Savannah, Georgia. Melisa graduated from Anne Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland in 2000. She was a Medical Claims Adjuster for Nationwide Insurance and volunteered with StrykeTeam Veterans suicide crisis Awareness & Crisis response team. Melisa influenced the StrykeTeam to do more community outreach through feeding local families.
Melisa was engaged to be married to Kenny Evans in March of 2022, but the wedding never took place due to her falling very ill. She made friends anywhere and everywhere she went. She loved baking, cake making and designing and makeup & beauty. Melisa loved all puns and “dad” jokes. An unusual attribute was that she could tell the difference between all brands of Adobo and Sazon! She actually had a full-blown panic attack when she found out an elder Puerto Rican woman was going to eat her rice. There are three words that can sum up the life of Melisa Ortiz…tenacious, loving and kind.
Melisa leaves behind to cherish her memories her parents; a daughter, Adryanna Ortiz; and her brother, John Anthony Ortiz and his wife,Zorismaely Ortiz.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at The Sanctuary of Savannah, 8912 Whitefield Avenue with Funeral Services to follow at 12:00 P.M. Interment will be Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park, West in Garden City.
